Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering in brief
The Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DIIEM) of Roma Tre University has been selected among the 180 Departments of Excellence within the Italian university system for the 2023–2027 period.
It aims to serve as a reference hub within the University for the core fields of Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Sciences combining human and instrumental resources in a synergistic way to contribute to the sustainable development of contemporary society.
The Department’s academic offer includes three Bachelor’s Degree programs in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Management Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering (the latter with two tracks: Mechanical Engineering in Rome and Marine Technologies in Ostia). Students interested in the Marine Technologies track must enroll in the Mechanical Engineering program and later choose the Marine Technologies pathway.
Students of the Department are involved in innovative teaching and research projects, such as the DIIEM Racing Team, a multidisciplinary student group developing a marine rover to compete in the international MATE ROV competition.
Teaching activities at both campuses take place in modern, well-equipped facilities; in particular, the Ostia campus was completely renovated and upgraded in 2024.
The Bachelor’s Degree programs naturally continue into Master’s Degree programs in Biomedical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering for Industry and Innovation, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering for Marine Resources.
Furthermore, starting from the academic year 2026/2027, an international double degree program with Pace University in New York (USA) will be introduced, allowing students enrolled in the master’s degree in mechanical engineering (LM-33) to obtain two academic degrees upon completion of the two-year program (one year in Italy and one in the USA).
As of the academic year 2024/2025, a joint single cycle master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery with a technoological focus is offered, administratively based at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Unicatt). This program is developed in collaboration between Unicatt’s Faculty of Medicine and our Department.
At the end of the program, graduates in Medicine and Surgery with a technological focus will also be able to obtain a Degree in Biomedical Engineering from our Department, thanks to an additional 30 CFU credits that enhance their acquired skills.
Finally, as part of its career orientation activities, the Department organizes a Career Day twice a year, an event that connects students with companies.
